CHUCKEY - Lavana Mae "Skeeter" Mathes age 85, of Chuckey, South Central Community, passed away Saturday July 29, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.
She was a former employee of Magnavox for 40 plus years. She was a member of Mt. Carmel UM Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Sheila and Benny Penley; a son and daughter-in-law: Gordon and Brenda Mathes; grandchildren: Sheena Archer and Fiancé, Aaron Grindstaff, Brandon Mathes, Breanna Mathes; great-grandson: Gunner Archer all of South Central; two sisters: Joyce Sparks of Jonesborough and Janice Walton and husband Johnnie of Johnson City; Bill Brown who was like a brother and wife Madge of South Central; sister-in-law: Rita Beane and husband Erman of NC; brother-in-law: Terry Mathes and wife Cathy of Bristol; several nieces and nephews
Lavana was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: Marvin Mathes and her mother: Irene Seaton; grandparents: Albert and Anne Brown; a half-brother: Gordon Broyles; and a brother-in-law: Dennis Sparks.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm on Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home preceding the funeral service at 3 pm in the chapel. Michael Brown and Rev. Richard Mullan will officiate.
The interment will follow at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Carol Sparks, Jimmy Painter, Steven Painter, Johnny Painter, Allen Painter, Kendall Mathes, and Robert Holt.
