Laurie Lee Degroat May 27, 1960- May 21, 2024
Born May 27, 1960 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Our beloved Laurie, known to us as a wife, mom, and Memom left us unexpectedly May 21, 2024. Laurie always lit up the room with her smile. She rarely ever met a stranger. Laurie loved fiercely but was also that red headed firecracker. She was a loving wife who was adored by her husband of 13 years Russell Degroat.
Laurie was the mom and Memom who devoted her life to her kids and grandkids.
She was survived by her daughter Shalene (Edward) Davenport and son Shane (Hanna) Roth. Memom was the name bestowed upon her by her first-born grandchild, and she forever wore it proudly. Laurie always strived to never miss a ballgame, awards day, or anything special for that matter. Laurie imprinted her love on 6 special grandchildren; Shelby and Lawson Davenport, and Beau and soon to arrive Jack Roth, and Lily and Liam Mango. Laurie is also survived by her mother, Victoria Hammitt of Clinton.
Her brothers and sisters, Jimmy Hazelhurst, Brodie Hazelhurst, Tony Hammitt, Heather Hazelhurst Roope, Dawn Hazelhurst Hall, and Jessica Hazelhurst.
Mother-in-law, Betty Cole, Brother-in-law Joe (Donna) DeGroat, and several nieces and nephews. Laurie was blessed to have that one special friend we all can only hope for, Candy Crigger.
Laurie was preceded in death by her daughter, Tara Haire. Her father, James Hazelhurst.
