Larry Van Hawkins Obituary
June 7, 2025
UNICOI - Larry Van Hawkins, age 78, of Unicoi, passed away on Saturday, June 07, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Unicoi and son of the late Phil and Edith Tinker Hawkins.
Larry lived most of his life in Clemmons, North Carolina returning to Unicoi in 2018. He was formerly employed as a Tech Writer for Western Electric in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Also, Larry was a coach at the YMCA.
Larry was a member of Unicoi Methodist Church. He was an avid baseball fan. Larry enjoyed attending Little League games and Clemmons Cougars baseball games.
He loved traveling and listening to Jimmy Buffet and the Beach Boys music. Larry always had a smile on his face, and he was a people person.
Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Betty Hopson Hawkins; two sons: Gregory Alan Hawkins (Kim) of Woodstock, GA, and Shawn Michael Hawkins of Unicoi; three grandchildren: Gage, Drew, and Katelyn Hawkins; brothers-in-law: James Hopson (Linda), Wayne Hopson, Doyle Hopson (Shannon), Don Hopson (Glenda), Bobby Hopson, and Gary Hopson (Shari); sister-in-law, Cynthina Hopson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Unicoi Funeral Home. Dr. Mike Pinner and Pastor Steve Rice will officiate the 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Music will be provided by Pastor Art Gibson. Pallbearers will be Jamie Hopson, Keith Hopson, Chris Hopson, Jason Hopson, Daniel Hopson, and Owen Hopson. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Worked at Western Electric with Larry and attended several parties at his home in Clemmons. He had a great sense of humor. I went by wife's place of work several years ago and found out they had moved to Tenn.
