JOHNSON CITY - Larkey J. Tyree, 79, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

He was born in Johnson City and was a son of the late Cecil and Elsie Hughes Tyree.

Larkey was a proud Veteran of the United States Army who served his country honorably in Vietnam as a sniper. Following his service, he remained deeply committed to his fellow veterans. He served as a board member and Road Captain for Rolling Thunder and spearheaded the first "Welcome Home" celebration for Vietnam veterans in Johnson City, a cause that was especially close to his heart.

Larkey was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast who traveled all across the United States on his bike. Weekends were often spent riding 100 to 200 miles just to enjoy a good meal. He made countless trips to the Florida Keys, attended Sturgis many times, and cherished trips to Florida where he would rent a house with close friends or head to a cabin in the Smokies to relax and unwind.

He enjoyed building detailed wooden models and had a passion for collecting unique items, including spheres, motorcycles, watches, and cowboy boots. Above all, Larkey treasured the friendships he built along the way and the miles of memories made on the open road.

Larkey was a member of Fountain of Life Bible Church where he was president of the motorcycle ministry.

In addition to his parents, Larkey was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Tyree and service dog, Apple.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Tyree; son, Murphy Tyree and best friends, Doug, Angie, Mikey, Vic, David and Debra.

The memorial service for Larkey will be conducted Saturday, February 21, 2026, 2:00 pm at Fountain of Life Bible Church, 118 Julie Ln. Johnson City, TN 37601, with Dr. Vic Young, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 pm at the church.

Larkey will be laid to rest in Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors.
