Kimberly Overbay Hughes The world has lost a beautiful and cherished light as Kimberly Overbay Hughes went to be with the Lord. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her, but we rejoice in the amazing beacon she will be in heaven.
Kim was a loving wife, devoted mother/mamaw and a fierce friend. She is survived by her husband, Jimmey "Jinky" Hughes, her mother, Rosie "Toi" Overbay, children, Gabriele Overbay, Jeremy Smith, Samara Hughes Anderson (Tim McMullen), Shira Hughes Kingrey (Matt Kingrey) and Justus Hughes, grandchildren, Hailey Carter, Hannah Overbay, Harrison Overbay and Will Kingrey and loving niece who was like a daughter, Ashley Overbay Ward (Devin Ward) and great-nephew, Lincoln Ward.
She is also survived by her siblings, Billy Overbay, Jr., Danny Overbay, Peggy Ann Britt, Darlene Lloyd, Patrick Ferguson, and Leanne Reel. She leaves behind special, lifelong friends, Mailee Reed and Kim Tipton. She is preceded in death by her father, Billy Overbay, Sr., her sister, Brenda Overbay, maternal grandparents, Burk and Myrtle Saylor and paternal grandparents, William and Ada Overbay. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Mailien Rogers and the nursing and hospice staff at Johnson City Medical Center for their care.
Kim was a remarkable woman with many interests and talents. She was a gifted artist and photographer and made elaborate chalk drawings that combined her love of all things Disney with her favorite thing on earth, her grandbabies. She also loved baking, crocheting, and sewing. She had a great passion for genealogy and spent many hours researching her family origins and the families of those she was closest to.
Kim was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and above all, she loved her family and friends and the Lord Jesus Christ. She was gifted and incandescent with a heart of gold. If she loved you, she loved you with all of her soul. She will leave behind a legacy of laughter and love. To sum up all that she was in a few words would be an impossible task but suffice it to say the world is a less bright place without her in it. We were all so lucky to know her and love her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 12:00 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church, Hart Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Jim Chatman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until the service hour. Graveside service will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
