Kevin Schutt Obituary

Kevin Berry Schutt

September 30, 1958 -

January 20, 2025

Kevin Berry Schutt, aged 66, passed away on January 20, 2025. He was a beloved brother, husband, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Kevin was born on September 30, 1958, in Tucson, Arizona. He lived in Oak Ridge, Tn and Lynchburg, Va, but grew up primarily in Roswell, Georgia, where he had an active, and occasionally mischievous, childhood. He joined the United States Air Force and served over 16 years, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant and earning numerous medals and commendations, particularly for his expert marksmanship and ability to train others with rifles and small arms. Kevin served overseas in both Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield beginning in 1990.

After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Kevin went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at East Tennessee State University. He was employed in the Security Department at Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. in Erwin, Tennessee, and eventually became the Director of Business Improvement there until his retirement in 2008. He was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.

But more than anything, Kevin was a devoted family man. He loved spending time with his loving wife, and best friend, Linda, his parents, siblings, in-laws, cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. He will be fondly remembered for his vast treasure trove of jokes, amusing stories, and funny impressions.

In his free time, Kevin was an avid golfer, fisherman, target shooter, storyteller, and sometimes, on the right night, even a ballroom dancer. He was an active member of his community, volunteering for various causes and organizations.

Kevin took pride in his home and kept it extremely organized and in tip-top shape. He was an intricate woodworker, often creating amazing projects for his home and other people who were fascinated by his work.

He customized his basement to fit fun games for all, including shuffleboard, pool, pinball, chess and darts. Kevin was talented at all his games and many intense competitions took place in the Schutt basement over the years. Nicknamed "K-Dog" by family, he always lived up to his fame, or perhaps infamy, as a magician and jokester. He spent hours entertaining his nieces and nephews with his never-ending supply of amusing stories, funny impressions, magic shows and jokes.

Kevin adored his dogs. His two golden retrievers, Tootsie Pop and Ruth, who both have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, will be waiting to greet Kevin with wagging tails. Simba, his German shepherd rescue, will greatly miss him but stay a strong protector and companion for Linda. Every year, Kevin treated the dogs to a "Burger Bash" on their birthdays and friends and neighbors were all invited.

The love of his life was his wife, Linda, whom he often called "Darlin'". Married in 2002, Kevin and Linda lived life together in a big way. They traveled around the world. Some of their favorite adventures were in Jamaica, St. Lucia, Mexico, Costa Rica and a cruise through the Panama Canal. They even had their wedding vows renewed by Elvis himself on their 10-year anniversary in Las Vegas.

Kevin lived life with a smile and positive attitude. He loved meeting people and having fun. Kevin would give you the shirt off his back or the hat off his head. He would do anything to help anyone near or far. Kevin was one of a kind and will be missed greatly.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda; brothers, Steve Schutt (Susie) and Roosevelt Rogers (Linda), his sister Andrea Grindstaff (Brian), sisters-in law, Karen Hawkins and Lessa Schutt; mother-in-law; Konni Bostleman; brother-in-law, Bill Bostleman (Evy), sister-in-law Diane Lehman (Adam) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Schutt, his mother, Suzi Schutt, and brothers Chuck Schutt and Kerry Schutt.

Kevin's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will take place on February 14, 2025 at 11:15am with a visitation at 10:00am before the service at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 212 Sunset Drive Johnson City, TN 37604. A graveside service with full Military Honors will take place at a later date at Toledo Memorial Gardens in Sylvania Ohio. The family encourages everyone to wear casual red, white and blue.

Linda,

I haven´t forgotten the time you guys came over to my house in Jonesboro during the tour of homes, and as I recall, Kevin was using crutches I believe because of some injury and he stayed back at the house while we went and toured some homes. A random memory but I bring it up because I have a frozen picture of him smiling and seeming happy just being there. He was probably like that all of the time and he certainly was like that all of the times I saw him. Anyway I hope you´re doing well. If you need anything or if you want to see the house again you know where I live.

Kevin was our next-door neighbor. Whenever I needed help on a handyman project, he always came over and gave me professional advice. Even using his tools also! We will miss him and Linda. However, we know he is in a better place with no more pain and suffering. Thanks be to God!

Kevin was always a true gentleman with a helping hand anytime you asked. He could repair or fix about anything from door locks to chain saws. Great to partner with when playing euchre...he remembered every card played and by whom!
Rest In Heavenly Peace Kevin. Hug Ruth for us.
