Keith Mulligan Obituary

Keith Mulligan

January 25, 1936 -

February 18, 2025

Keith Mulligan passed away February 18, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Keith was born in Dwight, Illinois on January 25, 1936, to Vincent and Margaret Mulligan. He grew up in Sycamore, Illinois, and graduated from Sycamore High School.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan; son Kevin and daughter-in-law Leann and their children, Owen and Abby Kate; brother Tom; sister of his heart, Joan Johnson; and other surviving family and friends across the country.

Keith will be remembered for his kindness, his caring heart, his bad jokes, his quick wit, and his laughing, twinkling blue eyes. He loved nothing better than quietly sitting by the fire with a glass of wine or hosting family gatherings filled with good food and laughter. Keith was an avid photographer, known by family and friends for telling his subjects "just one more." He loved to travel and visited many places in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

He was an Air Force veteran.

His varied career included working as a journalist for various newspapers in Illinois and Wisconsin. He served as home secretary to the late William Steiger of Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District. He was Vice President at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and later headed the Elizabethton/Carter County Economic Development Commission where he also was President of the Northeast Tennessee Economic Development Association. Keith served as advisor to the Elizabethton/Carter County Association of Business and Industry. He was a member of Rotary International for many years and various professional organizations. Keith volunteered at The Melting Pot, a ministry to feed those in need in Johnson City.

Keith was a die-hard Packers fan and an always optimistic Cubs fan.

The Mulligan family wishes to thank the nursing staff of Johnson City Medical Center's 6400 unit for their care and compassion during his illness.

Susan
I was so sorry to learn of Keith´s passing. Although I didn´t know him well, I always saw him taking pictures of the flowers in the yard. My prayers are with you and your family.

Susan, Kevin and family- we were so sorry to hear about Keith´s passing. Life is so fragile. He certainly left behind a legacy of community involvement and a wonderful family. We will miss waving at him sitting on the front porch in the summer. Our love to all of you.

Dear Susan,
I don't know if you remember me, but I was a classmate of Keiths and tried to keep in touch, visiting you once in Johnson City. I just now learned of his passing, and I am praying for the whole family. God bless you all.
