Katherine Long Obituary

On Friday, November 8, 2024, Katherine G. Long of Forest Hill, Maryland passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 80.

Kay was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland on February 20, 1944. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1962.

Kay was predeceased by her father Thomas O. Gosweiler and her mother Thelma (Morris) Gosweiler. She had one brother Thomas Jr.

Kay went to work at the Wilson Oliver Agency in Aberdeen shortly after graduating, starting a long career in the insurance industry. She worked for Charter Corp. in Bel Air, Baltimore, and Towson. She ended her career with the Worthington Agency in Bel Air. Kay worked mostly in sales of personal lines insurance.

Kay was married to Arthur C. (Skip) Long on December 20, 1969. Both Kay and Skip's parents had been married on December 20, 1940. December 20th fell on Saturday in 1969, so that date was chosen. Kay and Skip would have been married 55 years on this December 20th.

Kay was an immaculate housekeeper and enjoyed entertaining friends and family on holidays and special occasions. She loved her gardens and loved growing flowers inside the house and outside in her gardens. She was a longtime member of the Garden Club of Harford County. There was nothing she enjoyed more than working on club projects and flower shows.

Kay loved living on her farm in Forest Hill. She enjoyed watching the deer, geese, and other animals and birds.

She dearly loved her German Shorthaired Pointers having four over a period of 35 years.

Kay thoroughly enjoyed the dinners and crab feasts with her classmates from her Aberdeen class of 1962.

Kay and Skip spent many winters on Marathon in the Florida Keys. She enjoyed the warm weather and the many friends they had in the Keys.

Kay received wonderful, kind, and compassionate care at Viva Senior Living of Bel Air. The entire staff is highly professional and very caring.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those wishing to make a donation in Kay's name, The Greater Maryland Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 502 Washington Avenue, Suite 300, Towson, Maryland 21204 is suggested.
