June 26, 2025

Mrs. Judy Taylor Gouge, Jan. 8, 1951 - June 26, 2025, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was a native of Johnson City and attended Science Hill High School. She was a wonderful wife and mother and spent the past 47 years in Jonesborough at the home she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Eugene F. Taylor II and Elizabeth Gump Taylor and a sister Elizabeth Maybach. She met the love of her life Jimmy Gouge while attending ETSU. They lived in Michigan, Ohio and finally made their home in Jonesborough. For many years they enjoyed hiking the mountain trails in this area.

She worked for the First Tennessee Development and was a dedicated teacher for many years. She was a creative artist in a variety areas and presented her works at many different craft fairs down through the years. While living in Ohio she did Tole Painting and Pennsylvania Dutch Hex Signs. Judy participated in the Silver Dollar City Fall Craft Fair in the early 80's making salt dough Christmas ornaments that she baked in a wood fired cook stove. In addition, she was the owner operator of Reflections Photo Restoration and Gourmuttery Dog Treats. Most recently was her stained glass studio where she created 3-D glass sun catchers.

Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jimmy Gouge, her brother Eugene F. Taylor III, daughter Laura Gouge, her son Richard Gouge and his wife Tiffany Grant.

Though we never had the honor of meeting Judy in person, we were fortunate to know her through her son, Richard and his wife, Tiffany, and their loving, vivid stories of her cooking, gardening, making art and providing the familial space for her children to thrive and become incredible human beings whom we cherish beyond measure. Everywhere she left beauty, and continues to do so through Jim, Richard, Tiffany, and Laura. May we all follow her example.

My heart is broken to hear of Judy's passing. We were great friends in junior high and High School and spent many hours playing Beatles music and just hanging out together. Judy was so much fun. I have hundreds of stories of our adventures and her wonderful wit. She was fun to be with and a true confidant. Her Talent was off the charts. I'm praying for her family as I know they will miss her terribly. She was definitely a bright soul in this world.
