Joyce Boyd Obituary

Joyce Love Widener Boyd

January 4, 1935 -

February 14, 2026

Joyce Love Widener Boyd, 91, peacefully passed away at home on February 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, making it fitting that she departed on Valentine's Day.

Joyce was born on January 4, 1935, in the Love's Mill area of Washington County, Virginia, to the late Roby Monroe Widner and Emma Louise Hamm Widner.

Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she encountered. Her passion for life was evident in everything she did. She expressed her creativity through her many talents, including her culinary expertise, painting, needlework, and impeccable sense of style. She was an enthusiastic reader who carried a lifelong love of learning and storytelling. An avid bridge player for over 60 years, Joyce belonged to several bridge clubs and proudly achieved the esteemed title of "Ruby Life Master."

Joyce was also an active member of the Home Demonstration and Garden Clubs in various cities and participated in multiple bowling leagues. Her career as a teacher was highlighted by her role in starting the Head Start Program in Highland County, Virginia. A dedicated member of the United Methodist Church, she shared her love for music by singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. For over 40 years, she was a proud member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Boyd; children, Dixie Lee Shumate III, Jon Eric Boyd, Christopher Lee Boyd, and Melissa Jill Larkin; and 11 siblings. As the final matriarch of her family, Joyce's spirit and love will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Timothy L. Boyd, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Julie Boyd McTier (Kenny), of Johnson City. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Tara Ann DelMonaco (J.D.), Caleb Phoenix Pleasant, Taylor Marie Boyd, Christian McClendon Everette, Corey Boyd Larkin, Bianca Love Profiri, and Nolan Eric Profiri, her beloved great-grandchildren, Anthony DelMonaco, Jameson DelMonaco, and Sadie Jane Profiri, her special niece, Lisa Louise Sturgill, whom she regarded as a daughter, and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held for Joyce on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00pm, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The visitation period will begin at 1:00pm and will continue until the service hour.
