JOHNSON CITY - John L. Treadway, age 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the James H Quillen VA Medical Center. John was the son of T.R. "Zeek" and Lucille Jones Treadway, who preceded him in death.
John was a graduate of Happy Valley High School in 1960. He then attended ETSU, Steed College and Elizabethton Business College. John was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force. One of his finest moments was firing two Atlas Missiles and hitting their targets for President John Kennedy at Vanderberg Air Force Base. President Kennedy gave the 576 SMS a presidential ribbon for the success. John was a charter member of the "Choir Boys". John worked as a traveling salesman for over 38 years.
John is survived by the loves of his life, his daughters, Amie C. Williams and husband Michael and Jennifer P. Chipman and husband Martin; grandson, Jacob Williams; and granddaughters, Sydney P Curtis and Allison Williams; great grandsons, Asher and Aysen; sister, Judy Thompson; and brother, Larry O. Treadway; niece, Heather King and husband Matt; nephew, Chad McClelland and wife Tena; great niece, Tameria McRath and Madison McClelland; a special nephew, Rodney Krone; and a special friend, Linda Hopson.
John loved his church, Calvary Baptist, where he had been a member since the age of 10. He was always there for people in need. John loved horse racing, U.T. football and cruising.
He would tell you that his life had been more than he ever expected, and he thanked his God for that.
A visitation will be conducted on Thursday, March 28, 2024 between the hours 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Friends may also visit at the home of his brother on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 between the hours 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
A private graveside service will be conducted in the Patton Simmons Cemetery in the Milligan Community at a later date.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of John to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the Samaritan's Purse or to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8506.
