UNICOI COUNTY - John was called home and entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, August 4, 2023 at the age of sixty. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late James and Maude Mosley.
John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother. He was a good and hard-working man. He loved his family tremendously and he loved the Lord.
John was in the middle of his third term as county commissioner for Unicoi County where he served for ten years. He served on several committees for the county: building and grounds, finance/budget, policy/salary, and the library board. John believed in helping the citizens of Unicoi County and he worked diligently with others to get an ambulance service for the county. He also served on the 911 board as a member and was chairman of the EMS Board. John was employed at Eastman Chemical Company for the past thirty-two years.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, Jacob Mosley in 1992; one brother, David Mosley; mother-in-law, Martha Rice; and one nephew, Donald Shead, III.
John is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Regina; son, Matthew; daughter, Courtney; father-in-law, Robert Rice; sisters: Barbara Kay Shead (Donald) and Nora Fay McDairmant; sister-in-law, Sharon Peterson; several nieces, nephews, and his special fur baby Chipper whom he adored.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 09, 2023, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Eulogy provided by Bart Ray and prayer by Garland Evely. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Mosley, Ivan Rice, Bart Ray, Adam Copas, Frank Rogers, and Loren Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Crew 3 from building 253 of Eastman: Phillip Walling, Jordan Horton, Britton Mauldin, Dave Erwin, Becky Davis, Michael Harris, Mark Vaughan, Greg Strong, and Dustin Rogers.
Committal service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 in the Evergreen Cemetery with James Bowman officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the Unicoi Funeral Home by 11:00 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
