HAMPTON - Jasper William Baird, 87, Hampton went home to be with his Lord Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Luther & Flossie Dugger Baird. He attended Hampton High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp. Jasper was a Mechanic having worked at Hampton Auto Parts and Baird's Garage. He was a member of Hampton Christian Church, a member of the Praying Mountain Men. He loved drag racing and hiking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Kathleen Harmon.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Opal Ward Baird. Three Children: Lora (Mike) Odom, Elizabethton, David (Felecia) Baird, Hampton and Karen (Tony) Simpson., Kingsport. Seven Grandchildren: Jennifer Carden, Michael Shepard, Stacey Proffitt, Christopher Johnson, Matthew Stocton, Alex Odom and Jacob Baird. Seven Great Grandchildren. Two Brothers: Jerry Baird and Jimmy Allen Baird.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Dwayne Calhoun officiating. Military Honors will be provided. Music will be by Greg Odom. Active Pallbearers will be Mike Odom, Seth Proffitt, Christopher Johnson, Matthew Stocton, Jacob Baird and Larry LeSueur. The family would like to express a special thank you to Darlene Brumfield and the Doctors and Nursing Staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Baird to the donor's favorite choice. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
