JOHNSON CITY - Jane Elizabeth Trotter Garland, 89, died in her home in Johnson City on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
She was the daughter of the late Geneva and Douglas Trotter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David G. Garland; her son, David Garland, III; and her brother, Douglas Trotter Jr. Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Normand St. Onge; son, Michael Garland; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jesse and Karyn Garland; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Alexandria and Ray St. Onge; grandson, Nathaniel St. Onge; granddaughter, Darby Jane St. Onge; great-grandchildren, Harrison, Jack, and Madelyn Jane Garland; daughter-in-law, Sherry Garland Spooner and husband, Bill Spooner; sister-in-law, Brenda Trotter; niece, Jill Tidwell and family; and nephew, Thom Stokes and family.
Jane centered her life around her faith. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she helped start a ministry called the Naomi Group for Widows. She also enjoyed her church friends' Birthday Group. She dedicated her life to serving God and her community in too many ways to count-from caring, serving, and feeding anyone with a hungry stomach who was lucky enough to show up around mealtime. She shared God's love with everyone, especially through her card writing ministry. She also loved caring for, entertaining, and feeding her family, and her great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy in the last years of her life.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers include: Thom Stokes, Bill Spooner, Jesse Garland, Normand St. Onge, Ray St. Onge, and Nathan St. Onge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Building Fund at this address: 2343 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, TN 37604.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate support, and especially to Teresa Brigman, whose presence was a true blessing. Teresa was more than a caretaker - she was a friend, a source of comfort, and a steady light during our most difficult moments. Words cannot fully express the depth of our appreciation for her unwavering kindness, strength, and the heartfelt care she gave.
