Dr. James "Jim" Miller Ross

Dr. James (Jim) Miller Ross, 87, of Terrell, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at his residence.
Jim was born on July 19, 1938 in Knox County, TN to the late Robert Marshall Ross and Alma Martha Miller Ross. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Terrell and a United States Army Veteran. Jim was a dedicated physician in Catawba County and a community leader. He was proud to be one of the founders of Carolina Caring Hospice where his commitment to compassionate care has touched countless families. Professionally, he served as Chief of Staff at Catawba Valley Medical Center and was an active member of the American Medical Association. He gave of his time to the Lions Club, the
Wounded Warriors Project and the North Carolina Sheriff's Association. Jim lived his life to the fullest. He loved the Caribbean where he spent many days scuba diving, sailing, boating and fishing. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and playing golf with his sons and close friends. At his home, his joy was gardening and he was especially fond of his rose garden. He delighted in travelling to Europe on many trips, though in recent years he found his greatest joy at Lake Norman. Above all, Jim loved his family and his dogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Sue Ross; and a brother, Robert Marshall Ross.
Those left to cherish his memory are; sons: James Miller Ross, Jr. and wife Julia Anderson Ross of Hickory, NC, Robert Charles Ross and wife Carla Jean Ross of Bailey, NC; daughter: Elisabeth Almekinder and husband Rolf of Hampstead, NC; grandchildren: Casey E. House, Zachary R. Weaver, Charlotte A. Ross and Autumn E. Freeman; close friends: Jim and Linda King, Art and Kathy Layton, George and Peach Singer, Vic and Sylvia Brawley, John and Joyce Geer and Wayne and Jane Lowe; special canine: Wendy.
A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, 9297 Sherrills Ford Rd., Terrell. Rev. Tony Moreau will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church. Those serving as pallbearers will be John Geer, Art Layton, Vic Brawley and Rock Vest.
