KINGSPORT - James "Jimmy" Howard Jones, passed away on October 30, 2023 in Kingsport. He was born on March 22, 1941, in Elizabethton. Jimmy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and sibling, known for his kind heart and dedication to helping the less fortunate. He often expressed his belief that no child should ever go hungry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred D. Jones and Virginia Jones; sister, Geraldine Smith; brother, Gene Jones; and nephew, Matthew Grindstaff.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Wanda Hyder Jones; their children, Peggy Presnell (Rick), Tony Jones (Debbie), Keith Jones (Pam), Sean Jones (fiancée, Sandra Lusk); brothers, Danny Jones, Fred Jones; sister, Paula Grindstaff; grandchildren, Ryan Presnell, Sara Snavely, Joshua, Andrew, Kyler, Allison and Aubree Jones, Cammy and Dylan Lefko; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jr, Caroline, Reed, Cole, Harper, Ella, Georgia, Ellie, Elias, Reus; and his beloved grand dog, Gabby.
Jimmy graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1959, where he was a member of the baseball team. He worked at Kingsport Press retiring after 35 years working as a machinist.
Jimmy was an active member of Colonial Heights Christian Church. He served as deacon of the church and played a key role in serving the community in the CHCC Food Pantry. Jimmy coordinated the Wednesday night meal and ministry services. He was always available to fix anything that needed to be repaired at the church or to assist friends and fellow church members with their projects.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Colonial Heights Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Minister David Mullins officiating.
Jimmy will be laid to rest at Happy Valley Memorial Gardens on Friday, November 3, 2023, where the family will meet for a private family service.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the CHCC Food Pantry, a cause that was dear to Jimmy's heart.
