JOHNSON CITY - James Allen Johnson, 83, of Johnson City (formerly of Elizabethton), TN, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 11, 2025, just before midnight.
Known as Jim at work, he was known by Allen to close friends and family. Born on September 4th, 1941, to the late Earl and Mildred Johnson. Allen lived a life marked by joy, generosity, and deep faith. He is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn June, his children Tamela (David) Combs, Tina (Bob) Dalton, and Tim (Karisha) Larkins; his grandchildren who were the light of his life, Crystal (Kevin) Jackson, Justin (April) Eaves, Kristina Grindstaff, Natalie Eaves, Keturah Larkins, Lacey Vines, Jake (Seanna) Larkins, Gabe Larkins, Kaya Larkins; and great-grandchildren Bryce and Tristan Eaves, Riley and Jaxon Grindstaff and his special close friend and family, Greg (Kristin) Holestin, Raegan, Jacob and Logan of Norfolk, Virginia. He is preceded in death by a son, Christopher Allen.
He was a 1959 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a member of Heartland Fellowship Church.
Allen was known for his fun-loving spirit-quick with a joke, a smile, or a story that could light up a room. He approached life with warmth and a twinkle in his eye, making everyone feel valued and loved. His faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his words, actions, and the way he treated others. He served faithfully in his church, sharing his love for the Lord and leading by example.
Whether it was a Sunday afternoon cookout, cheering on his grandkids from the sidelines, or lending a helping hand to someone in need, Allen poured his heart into everything he did. His kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Allen is now rejoicing in Heaven, where there is no more pain, only the eternal joy of being in the presence of his Savior.
There will be a short informal, casual graveside service for family and close friends on Friday, August 15th at 11:30 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Annette Mirelez officiating. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in honor of Allen be made to Heartland Fellowship at 211 Heartland Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
