James Emerson Henline age 96, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was born on February 19, 1927 in the White Oak Community of Bakersville, NC to Walter and Georgia Wilson Henline. James was a graduate of Bowman High School and attended Mars Hill College before going to the United States Army where he earned the rank of Corporal while serving in Germany. After the war he came home and worked for a time for Northwestern Bank before becoming an integral part of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, which opened its doors in 1949 and has continually served the public since. James was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church. He was also a charter member and past president of the Bakersville Lions Club, and he was involved with the Boy Scouts where he was a Scout Master. James was the chairman of the committee to establish the Bakersville Community Medical Clinic which opened its doors to the public in 1974.
James is survived by his wife, Eloise Hughes Henline; brother Bill Henline and wife Regina of Spruce Pine, NC and niece, Debbie Henline of Johnson City, TN; and his Boston Terrier, Alx.
The funeral service and burial for the family will be held privately. The memorial service to celebrate James' life will be held on September 10, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Bakersville Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Sutton officiating. Everyone is invited to attend.

I didn´t know Mr. Henline personally, but he knew my Mama, Rachel P. Watson. She would always enjoy talking with him. He always had a sweet smile and wonderful personality. My condolences to the family!

I am so sadddened to hear that James has passed away. He was a vital part and pillar of Bakersville and my friend. I will miss our hugs and banterings. He will indeed be missed. My sincerest condolences to Eloise. Bill and Debbie.S
