GRAY - James Howard Forbes passed away Monday, September 25, 2023. James was a longtime member of Boones Creek Baptist Church.
James is survived by his wife Barbara Forbes; his children, Rodney Forbes, Linda Inabinette, Amy Tester; stepsons, Todd and Scott Moody; his grandchildren, Jessica Merritt, Leslie Rogers (Jeff), Brandon Forbes (Missy), James Inabinette, Logan Tester, Samantha Scism, Christopher Scism; several great-grandchildren whom he adored; and a brother, Andrew Forbes, Jr.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Josephine Forbes; his wife Shirley Forbes; brothers, Donald and Paul Forbes; and granddaughter, Andrea Forbes.
James served in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. He retired from Eastman Chemical. After retirement, he had various hobbies including woodworking and fishing. He enjoyed going to breakfast every Wednesday with his special friends in the ROMEO Club. He was a man of God, loved Jesus and loved going to church. He loved his family and spending time with them.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. Funeral service will follow at 7:00pm with Pastor Jason Royston officiating.
James will be laid to rest on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00am at Washington County Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, grandsons, and great-grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the ROMEO Club.
