JOHNSON CITY - James C. Fields, 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
Born into the loving home of Luther Dickerson Fields and Eula Emmaline Chapman Fields in Abingdon, Virginia.
James met and married the love of his life, Sarah Louise Self Fields. They were married for 53 years, until her passing.
He was known simply as "Smiley". He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. James was a very hard worker all of his life. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
James loved the Lord and was a member of the United Church of God for many years.
In addition to his parents and his wife, James was preceded in death by six siblings.
Those remaining to cherish the memories of James include: 9 children, Nancy Hensley, James C. Fields Jr., Barbara (Mike) Wilson, David Fields, Sarah (Darrell) Johnson, Ida (Allen) Johnson, Lori (Mark) Shepherd, Betty Fields, and Roy Fields; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Fields; one sister, Ruth Mabe; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at 11:30 AM till 12:30 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Dogwood Chapel.
The funeral service will begin at 12:30 PM following the visitation. Pastor Jay Ledbetter will be officiating the service.
A committal service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM.
