JONESBOROUGH - Mr. James Lee "Buck" Coggins, age 83, Jonesborough, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at his residence. He was born to the late John & Lona Dotson Coggins on March 29, 1940.
He spent his life living in the Jonesborough area. He worked for the Washington County School System for several years. He later went into carpentry and farming.
His favorite hobby was getting his coon dog and going hunting. That was his best way to relax. Buck respected the Sabbath; he would not hunt on Sunday. He loved packing a picnic basket and taking off somewhere to the mountains or lake.
He was a born-again believer of Jesus Christ and attended church at Cherry Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Howard, Tom, John Jr. and Vestal Coggins, and sisters: Hazel Clark, Helen Smith, Minty "Bo" Cox and Annie R. Dickerson; and a granddaughter, Cortney R. Hensley.
Buck is survived by his wife, Margaret Coggins; son, Nathan Coggins and wife Kathy; stepson, Jeffrey A. Hawkins and wife Robyn; two daughters, Karen R. Hensley and husband Terry, and Terria S. Stout and husband Michael; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Coggins; special nephew, James Adkins, who seemed more like a brother; grandchildren, James L. Coggins, Chelsey Barnes, Britney Hensley, Audrie Harvey, Erica Carter, Phillip Stout, Jacob Hawkins and Jennifer Humphrey; and several great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Two other very special people in his life were David Freeman and Rita Bowman.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Hansen and nurse Sandra for the excellent care given to Buck over the past years. Also, a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for the love and care given this past year.

Buck was such a special person. Everyone loved and respected him. He would stop and visit with Mother and Aunt Bess very often. He was the first young person that I met when we moved here in 1955. The community was so pleased when he and Margaret got married. She has always been so very good for him and I know that she took the very best care of him. I did not hear of Buck's death until tonight, November 21st. God be with you on your way to heaven. All of my family loved you. Goodbye my friend.
