J. R. Street

GRAY - J.R. Street, 77, Gray, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at his home, following a brief illness.

J.R. was born and raised in Buladean, NC, and had been a resident of Gray since 1971. He was a son of the late Ike Street and Maudie Lucille Parker Street Byrd.

J.R. was a 1965 graduate of Tipton Hill High School, Mitchell County, NC, and later attended Steed College.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and Army National Guard where he retired as a Supply Sergeant following thirty-two years of honorable service.

J.R. had been a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church since 1975.

He enjoyed sports, watching basketball and NASCAR, and loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley.

In addition to his parents, J.R. was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Huskins, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Dean.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Carol Ann Street; three children, Tracie Christian and husband Claude, Church Hill, Kevin Street and wife Rhonda, Kingsport, Amanda G. Dean and husband Jeff, Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Jessica Caroline Curtis, Katelyn Ratliff (Nick), Beth, Hope and Kole Street, Lindsey Harris (Ethan) and Isaac Dean; six great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Nixon, Jaclyn, Amelia, Emory and Anniston; twin brother, J.P. Street and wife Evelyn, Unicoi; sister, Wanda Huskins and husband Ronald, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 21, 2025, at 12:30 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor John D. Herdman, officiating.

The graveside committal service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Historic Site of Mountain Home National Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

Those who prefer to make donations in-lieu-of flowers may do so to D.A.V. Washington County Chapter #9, 407 E. Market St., Johnson City, TN 37601.

I am so very sad to hear of JR´s passing. He was always good to me when the family would " go back home" to see everyone. I know my Aunt Carol is heartbroken. Married for so long. A good and faithful man. God will greet him. . Praying for all of the family but especially Carol.
