FLAG POND - Irene Fender Hoyle, age 93, of Flag Pond, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County. She was born in Yancey County, North Carolina to the late Horace and Martha Edwards Fender. Mrs. Hoyle lived most of her life in Flag Pond, Tennessee.
She retired from Morrill Motors where she worked for over thirty-seven years. Mrs. Hoyle was a member of Higgins Chapel Baptist Church. She loved planting and tending to her flowers. Mrs. Hoyle also enjoyed quilting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, Smith Hoyle on April 12, 2002; six brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Lee Hoyle of Flag Pond; one brother, Darrell Fender (Janie) of Burnsville, N.C.; two sisters: Kathleen Holt of Thomasville, N.C., and Geraldine Ramsey (Harlan) of Mars Hill, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The Hoyle family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Mrs. Hoyle's graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Higgins Chapel Cemetery with Reverend Craig Shelton officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
