Howard Lee Winters

December 10, 2024

JOHNSON CITY - Howard L. Winters, 89 of Johnson City passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in the Four Oaks Health Care Center. He was a native of Bakersville, North Carolina and was a son of the late Fred and Willie Yelton Winters. Mr. Winters was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a retired farmer and enjoyed watching westerns, gardening, hunting, fishing and was a NASCAR fan. Mr. Winters also enjoyed Tennessee football, photography, going to flea markets, enjoyed nature, especially driving in the mountains and loved country cooking.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Gene Rankin Winters in 2015; two brothers, C.W. Winters and Glenn Winters.

Survivors include his son, Harold Winters and his wife, Gail of Elizabethton; a daughter, Debra Bralley of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Donna Fields and her husband, Chris of Gray, Richard Winters and Tamara Winters; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Chance Fields; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Winters will be conducted at 1:30 PM Monday, December, 16, 2024 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Greg Key officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Graveside services will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to Four Oaks Health Care, Amedisys Hospice Group, especially Meagan Long and Katrina for the wonderful care they provided.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the West Side Christian Church, 1307 W. G Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
