Helen Bowman Obituary

Helen Catherine Bowman

June 18, 1940 -

February 26, 2025

ERWIN - It is with great sadness that our mother and grandmother, Helen Catherine Bowman, 84, Erwin, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025.

Mom was born in Erwin on June 18, 1940 to Wesley Monroe and Nellie Anetta Booth Clark.

She worked as an Insurance Coordinator for the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital and then Northside Hospital in Johnson City. Throughout her career, Helen worked for several doctors in the Erwin and Johnson City area.

Mom was a wonderful mother who raised five children and many grandchildren, whom she nurtured and loved unconditionally. Helen was a member of Canah Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was a child of God, and loved her Lord Jesus Christ dearly. Mom looked forward to seeing him face to face, with praise for her Savior.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, William H. "Bill" Bowman in 2004, five brothers, Leonard, Ted, Tom, her twin Herman, and Doug Clark, three sisters, Edith Poore, Margaret Dickey and Mary Mardis.

She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories five children, Bryan Bowman (Cindy), Scott Bowman (Nell Ann), Sabrina Watts (William), Christy Bowman, and Carol Bowman; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin, with Pastor Kevin Laws, officiating. Special music will be provided by David and Penny McNalley. Pallbearers will be Helen's grandsons, Brandon Bowman, Josh Bowman, Cody Bowman, Seth Bowman, Corey Silvers, Jake Cannon, Nathan Bennett, Ethan Bennett and Aaron Bennett. Those planning to attend the service may either meet at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601, by 10:15 A.M. Tuesday to proceed with the family to the cemetery, or may meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Miller and Unaka Internal Medicine, the nursing staff of Gentiva Hospice for all of the love and excellent care given to our mother, and would especially like to give special recognition and thank our loving sister, Christy Bowman, who always put mom before herself, sacrificing much of her own life and time to love and care for our dear mother.

Memories and condolences may be shared at www.wadugger.com or www.appfh.net.

Dear Helen, may you rest in peace. I remember our days in elementary school and in high school together! We were so mischievous but had so much fun together. No harm to anyone. Just good times!
