JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Heinz August Jaeger, age 98, of Jonesborough, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Heidelberg, Germany on November 21, 1925, to the late August and Kaete Jaeger.
Heinz came to the United States in 1955, via the United States' Intelligence Program known as Operation Paperclip, to work with NASA on the Space Program. He married his wife, Renate in 1976, and they moved to Jonesborough 25 years ago after living in San Antonio, Texas. Heinz was a very talented man. He was a Certified Master Watch, Clock, and Instrument Maker as well as a renowned woodturning enthusiast. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Alfred Jaeger who was killed in Germany during World War II.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Renate Willeitner Jaeger; former wife and mother of his five children, Ursula Davis; children, Joe Jaeger (Joyce), Brigitte Perkins (Mike), Martin Jaeger (Kelly), Barbara Gleinser (Mark), Doris Gold (James); stepchildren, David Stefan Terry (Jackie), Karen Baranauskas (David), Christine Terry; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 PM, Friday, January 19, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 211 Mayflower Road, Johnson City, TN 37601. Refreshments will follow the service.
