1956-2025

Harriet Kane Dossett Slavens, 68, passed away at her home in Playa del Rey, CA on April 1 following an extended illness. Born in post war Germany at the US Army Hospital in Bad Cannstatt, Stuttgart to Dr. Burgin E. Dossett, Jr. and Patsy Kane Dossett, Harriet was raised in Johnson City, graduating from Science Hill High School (1974) and Boston University (1978). Returning to East Tennessee, she began working in real estate with Belle Puckett and later Century 21 Realtors. Ultimately, pursuing her love of adventure and travel, Harriet joined American Airlines as a flight attendant, a career that spanned thirty years. Harriet (or Kane as she was known in later years) loved entertaining, had a passion for cooking, and was devoted to family and friends. Perhaps Harriet Kane will beremembered most for her wicked sense of humor and infectious laughter.

Harriet was predeceased by husband Dr. Patrick Slavens and her parents. She is survived by siblings Hunter Dossett-Hickie (Mike), Johnson City; Burgin Dossett III (Laura), Jonesborough; Patrick Kane Dossett (Heather), Dallas; along with stepmother Valerie Dossett of Johnson City; aunt, Ann Dossett Blevins (Daniel), Franklin and stepdaughters Laura Esposito, Pam Keene and Darla Haun-Pacheco, all of southern California. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Sarah Hickie Delia, Michael Hickie, Burgin Dossett IV, William (Daisie) Dossett, Elizabeth Dossett, Olivia Dossett, Kane Dossett, Taylor Dossett, Hunter Dossett, and a large extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life event will take place later this month in East Tennessee. As Harriet was devoted to her pets, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society.

When I met you many years ago, you were adventuresome and had a great sense of humor. It was during our travels together that I mentioned you would make a great flight attendant. Well lo and behold you took me up on that suggestion. I remember all the dinner parties you hosted in your 750 square foot apartment. You loved life. Our trips to CA led you to settle there and you met your Prince Charming Pat and loved the ocean view. Our friendship endured 40 plus years. I am so grateful to the assistance from Burgin and Darla to make your last few years as comfortable as possible. It does take a village. Love and will miss you. Judy E.
