ELIZABETHTON - Harold "Red" Winters, age 80, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Red was born in Newland, North Carolina to the late Steve Fitzgerald Winters and Rachel Stout Winters. In addition to his parents, Red was also preceded in death by a brother, Troy Dale Winters; a sister, Gail Richmond; a brother-in-law, Jesse James Hartley; and a niece, Rachel Lottie Hartley.
Red had worked for 24 years as a police officer in Washington, DC and had also worked several years for AmeriSource and Murray guards. He was a past Master and 32nd Degree Mason of East Gate Masonic Lodge #34 in Washington. He enjoyed surf, fishing, reading and his beloved dogs.
Those left to cherish Red's memory include his wife, Lottie Winters of the home; his son, Steve Winters of Elizabethton; a sister, Sharon Elliott of Johnson City; a brother-in-law, Bob Elliott of Johnson City; a nephew, Brian Hartley; and a niece, Amy Briggs.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Harold "Red" Winters will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 3, 2023 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Monday.
The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Patrick Flynn (his ICU nurse).
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in Red's honor to the American Kidney Foundation.
