Psalm 91:16 - I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.
Harold W. Loyd, 98, went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2023.
He lived a blessed life, rich with family and friends. He was raised by Ralph W. and Catherine Loyd on a farm in New Victory along with ten siblings. He was well known in the Conklin and Lamar communities for his baseball playing abilities and his "knuckleball." After school at Lamar, he married Mary Alice Sliger and raised two sons, William Dale (Pete) and Lynn Lloyd.
The farming background prepared him for the various trades he took on- butcher, ran multiple grocery stores, owned a concrete business with his friend, J.D. Conley, cattle trader, and car dealer. Through some friends, he became interested in go-cart tracks, so he opened a go-cart track in the early sixties across from his home near David Crockett High School. These various experiences gave him many friends to enjoy sharing his hobbies of card playing and his love of golf which he continued up until his nineties, even scoring his fifth hole-in-one at the age of 87. He loved spending his time playing Rook at Pioneer Market and watching his team, the Atlanta Braves, play ball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Sliger Loyd, his son, William Dale (Pete) Loyd, grandson, Jason Dale Lloyd, and six siblings, Lethea Lloyd, Ruth Markwood, Evelyn Wasson, Wayne Lloyd, John Lloyd, Sherman (Den) Lloyd, Euel Lloyd, and Lester Lloyd.
Survivors include his son, Lynn Lloyd (Kathy), granddaughter, Kelly Lloyd Casey (Rob), great-granddaughters, Kelsey Lloyd and Emmalyn Casey, great-grandson, Austin Casey (Bailey), two sisters Norma Hillyer and Sue Ferguson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
A special thank you to his caregivers at Four Oaks Healthcare Center in Jonesborough for the care and kindness he was shown during his time there.
