Gordon Geurink
December 22, 1948 - December 1, 2025
Gordon L. Geurink, known as Gordy to his loved ones, was an example of kindness and generosity throughout his 77 years. Born on December 22, 1948, in Wausau, Wisconsin, Gordy was the youngest son of Floyd and Annie Geurink. He spent his final moments surrounded by love in
Eau Claire, Wisconsin, before passing away from a heart attack on December 1, 2025
Gordy's life was a testament to his unwavering optimism and his passion for education. After graduating from D.C. Everest High School in Schofield, Wisconsin, in 1967, he proudly became the school's first State Wrestling Champion at 180 lbs. His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn a BS in History and Geography from Winona State University, followed by a Masters in Education from the University of Southern California. He furthered his expertise with a Specialist degree in Education Administration and a PhD in Education Administration from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.
He served his country for three years in the Army, stationed in Bad Kreuznach, West Germany, a time that would shape his perspective on life and leadership. Upon returning to the States, Gordy dedicated himself to the field of education, teaching 7th and 8th grade history and geography in Belleville, Wisconsin. His career progressed as he became an Elementary Principal in Wittenberg, Wisconsin, and later served as Superintendent of the Elmwood Wisconsin District. Even in retirement, he continued to influence young minds as a driver's education instructor and a Meals on Wheels Meal Delivery Driver for the Eau Claire ADRC.
Gordy's love for his family was profound. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barb, and their sons: Justin, his wife Julie and their twin sons Liam and Benjamin; and Christopher, his son Crew and daughter Emmarie. He cherished his role as a grandfather, often watching Liam and Ben's baseball games via livestream and following Chris's football coaching career. His surviving brothers, Ron and Pat Walker Geurink, Jerry and Julie Geurink, Chuck and Jeanie Geurink, and his sister, Sherry and Vern Hettinga, along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews, will hold his memory dear.
A true Wisconsinite, he reveled in supporting all Wisconsin sport teams, especially enjoying travel with Barb to places far and wide. His daily bike rides, golf games with family, and his love for historical non-fiction books were only surpassed by the joy he found in spending time with his grandchildren.
Known for his happy, confident demeanor, Gordy often imparted humorous yet wise advice, such as "Don't eat any yellow snow!" He encouraged his sons with the words, "Look a problem in the eye, put a check mark after it and move on." His love for his family was fierce, generous, and supportive, and his pride in them was evident in every aspect of his life.
As we remember Gordy, we recall the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Gordon L. Geurink lived a life full of success by this measure, touching the lives of many with his kind and optimistic spirit. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A memorial visitation for Gordy will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Chippewa Valley Cremation Services – Celebration of Life Center, 1717 Devney Drive,
Altoona, WI 54720, from 11 AM to 12 Noon with a memorial service at 12 Noon. A luncheon will follow. Final rest will be private.
