Glasie Peterson Obituary

Glasie Hensley Peterson

March 15, 1933 -

February 6, 2025

Glasie Hensley Peterson, age 91, of the Spivey Mountain Community, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Thursday, February 06, 2025, while her husband was by her side. She was born on March 15, 1933, in Yancey County, North Carolina to the late Joe and Lucy Tolley Hensley. Glasie lived most of her life in the Spivey Mountain Community of Erwin.

She married her husband, R.L. Peterson, on January 23, 1960. Glasie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and aunt. She was a dedicated homemaker whose life was a living testament to the scriptures found in Proverbs 31:10-31 KJV.

Glasie was an active member of Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church for many years. She was an excellent cook who prepared delicious meals for her church family, friends, neighbors and family who were grieving or going through an illness. Glasie had a very kind and generous heart. She enjoyed gardening, canning, growing beautiful flowers, reading her Bible and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who know and love her.

In addition to her parents, Glasie was preceded by her only child, her son, Robert "Kelly" Peterson on December 09, 2018; one brother, Kyle Hensley; three sisters: Irene Tipton (Stanley), Zelta Bagby (Pete), and Kathleen Cooper (Wayne); one nephew, Ricky Hensley.

She leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, her loving and devoted husband of sixty-five years, R.L. Peterson; two brothers: Reverend Arnold Hensley (Marsha) of Erwin, and George Hensley (Sharrol) of Green Mountain; daughter-in-law, Treva Peterson of Erwin; Chasity Canipe and Sheena Biddix (Tyler) whom Glasie thought of as her own grandchildren; Eli, Seth, Owen, Bradyon, and Raina whom Glasie thought of as her own great grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Reed Bagby (Marsha), LJ Bagby (Kim), Anthony Cooper (Kelly), Sandy Hensley (Alan), Amy McLaughlin (Todd), Stacy Tipton (Melissa), Charity Hensley, Eli Hensley, Chad Hensley (Christy), Brian Hensley (Jamie); special great nieces and nephews who helped Glasie and R.L. during her illness: Heidi Hensley, Haven Hensley, Jared Bagby, David Edwards; several other great nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to special caregivers who were like family to Glasie: Debbie Bradford, Gwen Davis, and Everett Hughes. Also, Amedisys Hospice nurses, staff, and The Center on Aging & Health staff members for the excellent care given to Glasie during her brief illness.

The Peterson family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Tommy Hensley and Pastor Kevin Laws will officiate the 6:00 p.m. funeral service. Music will be provided by Marlin Hensley and Benjamin Edwards. Glasie's committal will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Joe Hensley Family Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
