JOHNSON CITY - Gilberto Arenas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Johnson City, TN on April 30, 2024. Gilberto was born in Tucson AZ and dedicated 26 years of his life in service to his country as a proud member of the United States Army, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant.
He bravely served in Vietnam as part of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, and also served with 173rd Airborne Brigade and the 82nd Airborne Division, demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers. He shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Catherine Bennett Arenas, creating countless cherished memories together.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish where his faith was a guiding light in his life. He found great fulfillment in serving his community and volunteered his time at the VA Medical Center, providing support and companionship to fellow veterans in need.
Gilberto is survived by his loving wife Catherine; his son Jefferey Arenas, daughter in-law Christle Arenas and his grandchildren Tyler Arenas, Seth Arenas, and Lindsey Loes.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Cecilia Arenas. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amedisys Hospice Care for their exceptional care and support during Gilberto's final days.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm in the chapel officiated by Rev. Mr., George Fredricks. Gilberto will be laid to rest on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 2:00pm at Mt. Home National Cemetery. Military Honors bestowed by DAV#39 and Ft. Campbell Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Arenas, Seth Arenas, Tyler Arenas, Craig Masters, Issac Burchett, Austin Burchett, and Mark Galloway. Honorary pallbearer will be Gerald Thomas.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the DAV Chapter 39, 337 Carter Street, Suite 7, Bluff City TN 37618.
