October 12, 1935 – August 6, 2023
GRAY - Born October 12, 1935 to Hal and Ruth Crawford in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was a third generation native of the Pikes Peak Region.
Geri graduated in the 1954 class of Colorado Springs (Palmer) High School and attended Colorado College for one year. She was employed as Service Rep for Mountain Bell Telephone.
While at Colorado College she was involved with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Through Intervarsity she met Donald Pegler who was part of the University of Colorado Boulder Intervarsity group. They were married February 2, 1958 and made their first home in Boulder while he completed his studies. Sons Stephen and Eric were born there. Don began his educator career in Colorado Springs where son Bryce was born. Don's involvement in education led to moves to Greeley, Colorado; Big Rapids, Michigan; Cleveland, Ohio; then back to Colorado Springs.
Geri had years of classical music training. She sang solos at several churches and sang in church and municipal choirs. She loved singing and music.
Geri took early retirement in 1990 as did Don from their respective careers. They felt called to Christian ministry and attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi where both earned M.Div. degrees. They returned to Colorado Springs and due to Geri's health problems put off ministry temporarily. In 1997 Don joined the pastoral staff of Village Seven Presbyterian Church. He was ordained and installed as pastor in 2000 and Geri was now a pastor's wife and a great help to Don's ministry. She was loved as a teacher and also as leader of a book discussion group.
Health issues led to a move in 2018 to lower elevation and shorter, milder winters in Gray, TN. A year later she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. August 6, 2023 while at home she went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, about whom she loved to sing and teach.
Don is grateful to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Visiting Angels, and Amedisys Hospice for aiding him in her final care.
Geri is survived by her husband, Don, of 65 years, sons Stephen (Ariane) Pegler of Centennial CO, Eric (Cyndi) Pegler of Buena Vista CO, brother Arthur (Kathy) Crawford of Colorado Springs CO, one niece, seven grandchildren and several widely scattered great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents Hal and Ruth Crawford, son Bryce Pegler, grandsons Alexander Pegler and Justin Pegler, and brother Charles Crawford.
There will be a memorial service Monday October 16 at 2:00 pm EDT at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City.
