JONESBOROUGH - George Edward Wamsley, Jr., age 73, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away at 3:19 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Otway, Ohio, a son of the late George Edward Wamsley, Sr. and Bettie Ann Zeller Wamsley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
George was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he retired as Master Sergeant with 20 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ramona Wamsley whom he married on September 7, 1973; four sons, George E. Wamsley, III and wife Meagan, of Jonesborough, TN, Chad Oakley Wamsley and wife Mary, of Palm Bay, FL, Alex Wamsley and wife Nancy, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jamie Wamsley and wife Michelle, of Palm Bay, FL; eleven grandchildren, Jasmine, Annelise, Lesli, George Edward Wamsley IV, Jayla, Tyler, Bella, Aaron, Elexis, Leilani, and Rhaelina; two brothers, Mike Wamsley and Jeff Wamsley and wife Brenda; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger Webb and Timmy Youngman and wife Tracie; seven sisters-in-law, Cookie Blosser, Debbie Bailey, Vela Hannah, Betty Wappelhorst, Betty Burris, Robin Burris, and Flossie Burris-Troxel; a very special friend and golfing buddy, Woody Crumm; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Juni Sonny Gee officiating. Committal Service and Entombment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum with military honors to be rendered by members of the Shaws Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and to the Tennessee Cancer Center, especially Tabitha, Madison, and Josh Buck for all the love and care that was shown.
