ELIZABETHTON - George Harrison Sheets, 85, Elizabethton passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a native of Johnson City and was a son of the late Benjamin H. Sheets and Lula Elizabeth Greer Sheets. George was a veteran having served his country in the U.S Army and U.S Air Force. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years. George was a member of the Tabernacle of God Church in Elizabethton. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Benjamin Herman Sheets, Chelsia Sheets, Charlie Sheets and Frank Sheets; seven sisters, Mae Chesser, Dorothy Bowman, Francis Dugger Wakefield, Betty Cox, Irene Marlow, Velma and Selma Sheets.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mildred Setzer Sheets; three sons, George Sheets Jr. and wife, Connie, David Sheets and Benjamin Sheets and wife, Bobbie all of Elizabethton; a daughter, Faith Parks of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mary Murray and Brenda Pritchard both of Johnson City; two brothers, Kenneth Wayne Sheets of Johnson City and Glenn Sheets of Maryville, TN; his grandchildren, Matthew and Roxie Breeding, Kimberly and Samuel Myers, Karen Berry, Joseph Sheets and Daney, Benjie Sheets, Kelley Grindstaff, Allison Inglehart, Cheyanne Schaper, Summer Parks and Michaela Sheets; great-grandchildren, Destiny and Piper Breeding, Chesney and Autumn Harrison, Kadence Myers, Georgia, Ruby and Savannah Berry, Gavin Sheets, Phoenix and Michael Grindstaff, Ava and Piper Sheets, Landon, Tinleigh, Gavin, Octavia, Logan, Blake, A.J., Makayla, Blakely and Abby; also several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for George will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, July 18, 2024 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Doug Wagner and Rev. George Sheets Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2024 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM.
