ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Gayle M. Hood, age 84, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2025, from the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on January 1, 1941, Gayle was the son of the late Andrew Jackson Hood and Margaret Wright Hood. In addition to his parents, Gayle was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Hood and Andy Hood; and two sisters, June Taylor and Anna Sue Jones.

Gayle retired from the United Postal Service where he had served as the supervisor of postal operations. He was a proud United States National Guard veteran and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton. Gayle had served as the church treasurer and in the food ministry and was very active in his church activities and organizations. Gayle was very athletic and enjoyed sports in high school and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Tennessee Volunteer football, enjoyed exercising and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish and remember Gayle include his beloved wife of 64 years, Jobelle Shipley Hood of home; three daughters, Robyn Hood Fuller of Johnson City, Julie Hood Eisenhart and husband Jamie of Nashville, and Rebecca Hood Tucker and husband Ron of Beaufort, SC; five grandchildren, Emmie Ramirez and husband Cris, Madison Zanelotti and husband Kyle, Jeffrey Berry, Elsa Eisenhart and Ava Eisenhart; two great grandchildren, Amora Ramirez and Kaia Ramirez; a sister, Kay Humphries of Lyman, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Gayle's life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2025, at First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton with Reverend Mark McFadden and Reverend Raymond Amos, Sr. officiating. Music will be under the direction of the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at the church prior to the service on Monday.

The committal and entombment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Sam and Vickie Shipley for the love and support given.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Gayle to First United Methodist Church, 325 East E Street, Elizabethton, Tennessee 37643 or to the Elizabethton/ Carter County Animal Shelter, 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
