Gay Lynn Torbett, 58, Piney Flats, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at the Johnson City Medical Center, after a courageous, two-year battle with cancer.
Gay Lynn was born in Johnson City and lived most of her life in Sullivan and Washington Counties.
She was a 1984 graduate of Daniel Boone High School, and a 1987 graduate of East Tennessee State University, where she received a BBA in Accounting.
Gay Lynn was the owner and operator of her interior design business, The Work Room.
She was a member of Edgefield Methodist Church.
Gay Lynn was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Jordan Godsey, in 1988.
She is survived by her father and step-mother, Warren and Vickie Torbett, Piney Flats; her mother and step-father, Patsy L. and The Honorable Richard Johnson, Johnson City; twin children, Morgan Taylor Parker and husband Michael, Piney Flats, Andrew "Drew" Hunter Godsey, Jonesborough; two grandchildren, Lillian Franklin Parker and Landon Beckett Parker, both of Piney Flats; three step-sisters, Sarah Hatton and husband Shaun, Johnson City, Monica Plunk, Knoxville, Tiffany Gallardo and husband Hector, Cumming, GA; one step-brother, Todd Johnson, Johnson City; an aunt, Jimmie Hyder, Johnson City; a cousin, Chris Hyder and wife Jennifer, Johnson City; several nieces, nephews, and her loving, eighteen year old cat, Tiger.
The funeral service celebrating Gay Lynn's life will be conducted Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 4:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Estel Williams, officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday the 14th from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
There will be a graveside committal service that will follow on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 10:00 A.M., in Edgefield Methodist Church Cemetery, 745 N. Pickens Bridge Rd., Piney Flats, TN 37686. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 A.M. Saturday.
Those who prefer to make donations in lieu of flowers may do so to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org/donate.
