UNICOI - Fred E. Cooper, 87 of Unicoi passed away at his residence Saturday, November 4, 2023. He was a native of Avery County, North Carolina and was a son of the late Hobert and Faye Woody Cooper. Fred was a farmer most of his life, he also worked for the State of Tennessee in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Unicoi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Lou Edwards and five brothers, Herman, Paul, Homer, Ken and Terry Allen Cooper.
Survivors include two brothers, Bobby D. Cooper and John J. Cooper and his wife, Carol all of Unicoi; three sisters, Clara Mae Garcia and Ann Ables both of Thompson Station, Tennessee and Norma Vineyard and her husband, Brent of Dallas, Texas; also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Fred will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, November 10, 2023 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Ben James and Mr. Brent Vineyard officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will follow in the Cooper Family Cemetery, Marbleton Road, Unicoi. Pallbearers will be Dwight Wilson, Dustin Wilson, Jimmy Edwards, Calvin Edwards, Mike Cooper and Eli Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Dallas Gregg, Gary Harrison and Larry Harrison.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice Group, especially Michelle for the wonderful care they provided during Fred's illness.
