February 22, 1925 – July 3, 2023
Lt. Colonel (USAF Ret) Frank T. Kontovich, Jr (98) of Richmond, Virginia passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023. He was the only child born to the late Frank and Myrtle Kontovich in Johnson City, Tennessee on February 22, 1925. Colonel Kontovich enlisted in the Air Force in 1945 and retired in 1965. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the Strategic Air Command as a navigator on RB-47 jets logging over 3000 hours of flight time before retirement.
He married Frances Dulaney in Johnson City, TN on December 25, 1948 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage until her death in 2012.
He is survived by his six children: Thomas Kontovich (Leigh), Michael Kontovich, Elizabeth Rosenthal (Brad), Susan McClure, Mark Kontovich, John Matthew Kontovich (Debbie); 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; his sisters in law, Ruth King and Helen Byrd and 13 nieces and nephews.
A visitation will take place from 5-8 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Bliley's- Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, VA 23228. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060 with a reception immediately following. Immediate family will attend private inurnment at Mount Vernon Memorial Park.

Love ya pops! My heart aches and will continue to do so. Knowing ur are with Mom now is comforting but can completely heal the wound. I hope u gave my mom that hug I asked u to give her. I hope to see u both again. Rest easy Dad
