NEWLAND, NC - Florence Odom Harmon, age 100, Newland, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at The Waters of Roan Highland, Roan Mountain after an extended illness. A native of Avery County, North Carolina, she was born January 24, 1924 to the late Vernal W. & Nina Mae Davis Odom. Mrs. Harmon was retired from the Tar Heel Micha Plant. She loved spending time with her family and reading her Bible. She was a member of the Newland Church of Jesus Christ where she loved going to church prior to her illness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years: Johnny Harmon, four children: Johnny Ray, Sammy Pete, David and Shirley Franklin and One Great Granddaughter, Brielle Elizabeth. Three sisters: Gladys Calhoun, Beulah Turbyfill and Mildred McKinney and two brothers: Roy Odom and V.W. Odom.
Survivors include Her Children: Priscilla (Dwayne) Letterman, Elizabethton, Bobby Harmon, Johnson City, and Dale (Sherry) Harmon, Elizabethton. Seven grandchildren, two-great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2024 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Atkins and Pastor Edward Davis officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Fork Mountain Cemetery, Newland, NC. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of The Waters of Roan Highlands, her 2nd family, for all the love and support given to her during her stay there. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, Tenn. 38105-9959.
