ERWIN - Everette Franklin Allen, age 79, of Erwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, after his fourth courageous battle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Erwin and is a son of the late Gurnie and Allie Harris Allen.
Everette was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably. During his service in the Army, he was awarded a Sharpshooter Rifle Badge. Everette retired after thirty-four years of service from CSX Transportation where he worked as the General Foreman/Supervisor. Everette was very involved with the annual Santa Train for over thirty years. In his spare time Everette worked as a licensed Electrician for forty years.
Everette grew up attending Lily Dale Church of Christ. He attended and served as an Elder at Love Chapel Christian Church for several years. Then, Everette began attending First Christian Church of Johnson City where he served as a Deacon for many years. His last church membership was held at Boones Creek Christian Church. Everette was a faithful servant and follower of Jesus.
Everette was on the Clinchfield Credit Union Board of Directors for twenty-four years having spent several of those years serving as Secretary. He was an active member of the Erwin Ruritan for many years. Everette's passion was participating in various volunteer work which included sharing devotions and praying with nursing home patients, taking care of his neighbors, and fundraising for Relay for Life as well as the American Cancer Society.
He loved woodworking and became a master at his craft. One of his favorite items to make was the Tennessee Pickin Stick which he gave to family and friends. Everette made so many beautiful items with wood which he loved to share with everyone he loved. He liked to grow a garden and plant flowers.
Everette was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved spoiling his family, especially his grandchildren whom he was very proud of!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Everette leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, his loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Patricia Jane "Patsy" Lewis Allen; two children: Kevin Allen of Erwin and Melanie Allen Smith (Steven) of Erwin; three grandchildren: Lily Smith, Kaden Allen, and Allie Smith; great-grandson, Lincoln Rome Johnson; special nephew, Tracy Allen; one brother-in-law, many sisters-in-law and several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
The Allen family will receive friends on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Kevin Laws and Brother Bill Booth will officiate the 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Music will be provided by Pastor Kevin Laws and Delancey Laws. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Steve Rice officiating. Active pallbearers will be Kaden Allen, Chris Harris, Steve Street, Carl Harris, Jr., Larry Riddle and David Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Orlis Francis, Dayton Pate, Bobby Whitson, Eddie Schreck, Tom Sherwood, and Tracy Allen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Everette to: Southside Freewill Baptist Church, 1313 Chestoa Pike, Erwin, Tennessee 37650.
