September 1, 1938 -

September 29, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Eugene "Gene" Edward Crowder, 87, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 29, 2025.

A lifelong resident of East Tennessee, Gene was born on September 1, 1938, in Erwin, Tennessee, to the late Cecil and Irene Arrwood Crowder. He graduated from Erwin High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University.

On September 4, 1958, Gene married the love of his life, Patricia Dawn Odom. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love, raising two children, Lauren and Matt.

Gene served as Production Manager for Beecham Pharmaceuticals -now GlaxoSmithKline- until his retirement. Outside of work, he found great joy in fishing, traveling with his beloved wife, and studying and teaching the Word of God. He was a devoted and longtime member of Southwestern Baptist Church, where his faith was evident in both his service and his relationships.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Claudine.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 67 years, Dawn Crowder; daughter, Lauren (Lisle) Whitman; son, Matthew (Michelle) Crowder; grandchildren, Lisle (Mallory) Whitman, Alexa Whitman, Lane Whitman, Will Crowder, and Eli Crowder; four great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Buddy) Odom; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Gene's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Southwestern Baptist Church, 1112 Cherokee Road, Johnson City, Tennessee.
