ERWIN - Douglas J. Gillenwater, 73, Erwin, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Unicoi County, he was a son of the late Joe Bill & Lucinda Oaks Gillenwater. He was a retired Construction Worker. He loved to make homemade knives. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Hazel R. Gillenwater. Two sisters-in-law: Micky Garland and Angela Marie Casey.
Survivors include his Sons: Douglas Lee Gillenwater and John Paul Gillenwater both of Erwin. His Granddaughters: Kayla Gillenwater, Katy Burk, Breana Gillenwater, Anna Marie Stonecipher and Angel Thomason. Two Sisters: Peggy Jo Quillen, Ft. Blackmore, Va. And Evalena (Tina) Bailey, Erwin, Tn. A Niece, Lisa Wells, Gate City, Va., One Nephew: Toney Quillen, Gate City, Va. 12 Great Grandchildren Two Sisters-In-Law: Kathy Tipton and Mamie King. Three Brothers-In-Law: Freddie Tipton, Art Smith and Carl Smith. Several other nieces and nephews.
It was his wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is serving the Gillenwater family.
