Dorothy Hawk Obituary

Dorothy Dean Hawk February 12, 1936- July 21, 2024

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; Proverbs 31:28

Dorothy Dean Hawk, 88, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. Dorothy was born on February 12, 1936, to the late Mack Harris and Flora Haynes Harris. Dorothy was married to the love of her life, Roy Lee Hawk for 55 years. She had two children who meant the world to her and was a Mamaw to Katie and Cameron who absolutely adored her. Her family was her life, and she gave everything she had to protect them. Dorothy spent most of her life as a teacher, something that she loved the most. Dorothy graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Unicoi County School system for 44 years. She touched so many lives and was loved by all her students. She was often referred to as the "favorite" teacher.

Dorothy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Erwin, TN but attended Zion Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN for the past few years. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Roy in 2018 and her two brothers, John Harris and Floyd Harris.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Timothy Hawk and Daughter, Tammy Hall and her husband, Andy, her grandchildren, Katie and Cameron Hall, Sister-in-Laws, JoAnn Harris and Carolyn Hawk, several nieces and some very special friends, Norma Hughes, Martha Silvers, Connie Caudle, and Jessie Uribe. Dorothy will be remembered for her love and kindness that she gave to everyone. She was a beautiful angel. If you knew her, you loved her. Our loss is Heaven's Gain. "She's an angel. Let her fly."

Funeral Services for Dorothy Hawk will be conducted on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Zion Baptist Church, 1982 Gap Creek Rd. Elizabethton, TN 37643 with Dr. D. Alan King and Dr. Caleb King officiating. Music will be provided by Rebecca Mynatt and Queenie Wheeler. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and other times at the residence of her daughter. Burial services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin, TN. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. Active pallbearers will be Patrick Bennett, Adam Ebernickle, Andy Hall, Bruce Hall, Danny Hughes and Greg McInturff. Honorary pallbearers are John Caudle, Joe Uribe, the congregations of Calvary Baptist and Zion Baptist Church and the faculty and staff of the Unicoi County School System.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice for the care and support they provided, especially Mallorie, Tara, Lori, Heather and Megan. They would also like to thank Bessie Bageant for being a special caregiver and friend over the past several months.
