Doris Jeanette Fisher, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12th, in Matthews, North Carolina. Born in Washington County on September 10, 1927, she was the beloved daughter of Mr. Arther Robert Shipley and Mrs. Mary Knight Shipley, and the youngest of eight children.
A proud graduate of Jonesboro High School, Class of 1947, Doris was deeply rooted in her faith and community. She was a longtime member of Salem Presbyterian Church before joining Telford United Methodist Church, where she formed lasting friendships and found joy in fellowship.
Doris dedicated 32 years of service to Burlington Mills, retiring in 1995. Retirement marked the beginning of a vibrant new chapter-filled with travel, laughter, and unforgettable adventures with family and friends. A passionate sports fan, Doris cheered enthusiastically for her Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Volunteers, and was a devoted supporter of the ETSU Buccaneers and David Crockett Pioneers.
Doris shared her generous spirit through volunteer work, most memorably while delivering Meals on Wheels with her dear friend Patsy Morelock-a tradition that brought joy to both giver and receiver. She cherished her weekly bowling outings with close friends from Telford Methodist Church, where laughter and friendship filled the lanes. Doris found delight in every corner of Jonesborough, from its charming historic downtown and seasonal storytelling festivals to the warmth and kindness of its ever-welcoming community.
For 46 years, Doris was blessed to call the New Victory Community on Miller Road home, surrounded by neighbors who became family-sharing nightly phone calls, checking in on one another, and building a bond of trust and love.
In 2019, Doris moved to Matthews, North Carolina, to be closer to her family-Chuck, Georgia, and Todd Fisher. Her days there were filled with serenity: admiring the garden, watching wildlife, and enjoying the companionship of her beloved kitty cat, Blue.
Doris lived a beautiful, full life. She was proud of her journey and the legacy she leaves behind. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Arther Robert Shipley and Mrs. Mary Knight Shipley; her brothers Warner, J.W., and Arther Shipley; and her sisters Emma Ruth, Pearl, Ann, and Francis Shipley.
She is survived by her son Chuck and his wife Georgia; her grandson Todd and his wife Jocelyn Fisher; and her beautiful little kitty cat Blue.
We love you, Doris. You will live forever in our hearts.
