Rev. Donald E. Stansell age 82 born to Rev. Joe Floyd and Ruby Stansell went home to his eternal reward July 4, 2023 at 8pm after a lengthy Illness. He served the Lord in ministry for 55 years. Rev. Stansell served churches in South Carolina, Arizona, Virginia and in Tennessee in the Pentecostal Holiness Church and United Methodist Church and a small independent church in his retirement. He retired in June of 2006 from the United Methodist Church and being restless in spirit took a small independent church for nearly 10 years until his health would no longer allow him to pastor.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Velma Dudley Stansell and his only son Chris and wife, Kim. He has three grandsons Aaron and wife, Jolene, Benjamin and Zachery, a special grandson Joseph Sowards and special granddaughter Elisabeth Radford. He has two great-grandchildren Gabriel James and Lainey Grace who he lovingly called "Little Girl". He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
He served the Lord and was loved by all who he pastored with many families still counting the Preacher as part of their family. He took his last peaceful breath surrounded by his family who each told him farewell and sang to him. At 8pm on Independence Day, he gained his true independence by making his entrance into the presence of the Lord.
The family will hold a visitation from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM and a memorial service at 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Roan Street Church Of God 113 N. Roan Street Elizabethton TN with Pastor Jody Bewley officiating. Friends and family may send flowers or in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Roan Street Church Of God to the Youth Department in honor of his grandchildren.
