November 18, 1952 – October 10, 2023
JOHNSON CITY - Donald Allen Bunch, 70, of Johnson City, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on October 10th, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on November 18th, 1952, to his late parents, DeWitt Bunch and Francis (nee Bagot) Bunch.
Affectionately known as Bunchie, he was a devoted family man, a master auto technician, and a passionate pool enthusiast. Over five decades, Don dedicated his life to the automotive industry. He began as an entrepreneur, briefly owning his auto repair shop, before embarking on a lifelong journey through various garages, where he honed his craft and spent the last 15 years of his career at Champion Chevrolet in Johnson City. His skills and knowledge were second to none, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Don's commitment to his work earned him numerous awards for auto service and countless certifications, solidifying his status as a Mr. Goodwrench.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (nee Suchan), who stood by his side through thick and thin, and their children, Steven and Madelyn. He is also survived by his children from a previous marriage: Grant, Jackie, and Donovan. In addition, he leaves behind his cherished siblings, Cliff, Dan, Linda, DeWitt, Roxanne, and John. His late siblings, Tom and Bonnie Sue, are fondly remembered. Don also leaves behind seven grandchildren.
Beyond his immediate family, Don left a lasting legacy in the hearts of friends, colleagues, and fellow pool players. His remarkable talent for sinking balls on the pool table brought joy and created lasting bonds of camaraderie. Don was a dedicated Moose Lodge member for 50 years at various chapters and a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan.
To honor Don, a memorial service will occur at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, at 2211 East Lakeview Drive, on Saturday, November 4th, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the Bunch family kindly requests contributions to the non-profit Johnson City Moose Lodge Chapter 1831 at 1801 West Lakeview Drive in Don's name, as it was close to his heart.
Donald Allen Bunch will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to work, passion for pool, and ability to light up any room with his warmth and congeniality. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy will live forever in our hearts and minds.
