Donald Banks Obituary

Donald Banks, Jr.

March 19, 1949 - March 4, 2025

Donald Banks, Jr., 75, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. Born on March 19, 1949, in Johnson City, TN, Donald was the son of the late Donald Banks, Sr. and Myrtle Wyatt Banks.

Donald was a man rooted in love and tradition. His spirited journey through life was shared with Melonie Carden Banks, his devoted wife of 28 years, and his loving children, Kevin Banks (with wife Mandy) and daughters Kimberly Banks and Patricia Castle. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Melissa Banks; his adored grandchildren, Eric, Brittany, Macee, Cody, Ethan, and Chaz; and great-grandchildren Durham Oaks Tipton and Karder Shipley. His familial circle included his cousin Gail Sparks and friend Rick Benfield, both of whom held special places in his heart.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Banks, his brother, Roger Lee Banks, and his sister, Deborah Banks.

Donald built a career as a reliable truck driver with Omnisource and proudly dedicated fifty-one years to the Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge #575, illustrating his commitment to community and brotherhood. His devotion was further echoed through his membership with the Trinity Baptist Church in Jonesborough, TN.

People often recalled how Donald loved to cook and engage in heartfelt conversations. His interests led him to bargain hunts at flea markets and regular strolls through Walmart. He was a constant fixture at family gatherings, his presence marked by intelligence, loving nature, and gentle demeanor.

A memorial service to honor Donald's life will be conducted from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at First Freewill Baptist Church, with Brother Timmy Campbell officiating. 302 Colorado St., Johnson City, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Three Degree Masonic Motorcycle Club #18 Coats for Kids Charity. 85 Crockett Timbers Rd, Limestone, TN 37681.
