JOHNSON CITY - Dennis C. Miller, 63, Johnson City was sung into Heaven by his wife of 34 years, La Vonne on New Years Eve. He was a native of Unicoi County. Dennis was lovingly known by friends as "Big Den" and "Granddaddy or "Big Papaw" to his family. He worked as a commercial contractor for most of his career, spending many years on the road. Those that knew him knew that he could command a room with a loud snap of his fingers or a big "Ehh." Dennis was intentional in his choices to build a life of which he could be proud. He prioritized relationships. He especially loved riding trips with his Harley buddies, hunting with friends, camping, 4-wheeling and fishing with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife, La Vonne Miller; his children, Robert Miller and wife, Fran, Hunter Miller, Jason Royston, Julia Royston - Church; his mother-in-law, Lena Hicks; a sister, Anna Hardin and husband, Earnest; two aunts, Donnie Ann Love and Mary Pavan; two uncles, John Dunbar and wife, Gayle and Donald Dunbar; his grandchildren, Asher and Lorelai Church, and children of Robert and Fran Miller; several other cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Funeral services for Dennis will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Johnson City Church of God, 1908 Indian Ridge Road, Johnson City with Pastor Bryant Collins and Pastor Grant Rockley officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 PM Friday, January 5, 2024 in the Patton-Simmons Cemetery in Elizabethton. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. You may meet at the cemetery or at the church by 3:00 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
