Deborah Watkins Obituary

Deborah Ann Watkins

March 3, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Deborah Ann Watkins, 66, Johnson City passed away Monday, March 3, 2025 in the Johnson City Medical Center with her daughters by her side. She was a native of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Sherman and Selma Fagan Hyatt.

Debbie was a woman full of love, warmth, and endless curiosity. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Spending precious time with family, basking in the coastal sun, tending to her flowers, and hunting for treasures were just a few of the many ways she loved to spend her time. A lifelong learner, she had a deep love for reading, exploring new technology, and studying the Bible, always seeking knowledge and growth. Her family was her whole world, and she poured her heart into loving and caring for her children and grandchildren, whom she adored. She cherished the time spent with her sister and brother, whether sharing laughter, reminiscing, or simply enjoying each other's company. She was active at the Senior Center, where her kindness brought joy to those around her. With a sweet spirit and sharp wit, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Whether traveling to new places or collecting the things that brought her joy, she embraced life with an open heart. She was truly one of a kind, and her love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Hyatt.

Survivors include her daughters, Shannon Currin and her husband, Matthew of Angier, NC and Stacey Strickland and her husband, Andrew of Benson, NC; a sister, Donna Hyatt of Johnson City; a brother, Scott Hyatt and his wife, Melinda of Johnson City; two grandsons, Hayden Currin and Owen Currin of North Carolina; also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Deborah will be conducted at 4:00 PM Saturday, March 8, 2025 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Mr. Louie Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until the service hour.
